Intersex Modifying Genes in Wild Strains of Drosophila Melanogaster.

چکیده
HE sex determining mechanism in diploid Drosophila melanogaster is T completely stable. No intersexual individuals are produced from hybridizing strains of D. melanogaster collected from widely separated geographical localities. In Lymantria, on the contrary, GOLDSCHMIDT (1934) has shown that the potencies of the X chromosome sex gene differs in races from Europe and Japan. The degree of sexuality in triploid intersexes (2X 3A) of D. melanogaster in contrast to the diploid sexes is remarkably sensitive to both genetic and environmental mileu (DOBZHANSKY 1930). DOBZHANSKY found that temperature affected the sex type of intersexes. The same author demonstrated the presence of modifying genes in a triploid strain. By means of several generations of selection, he derived a triploid strain producing predominantly male-like intersexes and also a triploid strain producing predominantly female-like intersexes. DOBZHANSKY located intersex modifying genes in chromosome I11 capable of shifting the intersex sex type when present in only one dose. The purpose of the present paper is to determine whether or not different intersex modifying genes located in the X chromosome exist in wild populations of Drosophila collected from various geographical regions. /

Analysis of the doublesex female protein in Drosophila melanogaster: role on sexual differentiation and behavior and dependence on intersex.
doublesex (dsx) is unusual among the known sex-determination genes of Drosophila melanogaster in that functional homologs are found in distantly related species. In flies, dsx occupies a position near the bottom of the sex determination hierarchy. It is expressed in male- and female-specific forms and these proteins function as sex-specific transcription factors. In the studies reported here, w...
متن کاملA genetic analysis of intersex, a gene regulating sexual differentiation in Drosophila melanogaster females.
Sex-type in Drosophila melanogaster is controlled by a hierarchically acting set of regulatory genes. At the terminus of this hierarchy lie those regulatory genes responsible for implementing sexual differentiation: genes that control the activity of target loci whose products give rise to sexually dimorphic phenotypes. The genetic analysis of the intersex (ix) gene presented here demonstrates ...
متن کاملAconitase and Developmental EndPointsasEarly IndicatorsofCellularToxicity Induced by Xenobiotics in Drosophila Melanogaster
Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system. Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...
متن کاملConcentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)
Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...
